Cruising shoot and whisker pole

hi all just got my dockrell 17 and what a fine boat it is to.going to go to the meni straits this weekend and give it a go. can any one tell me what and when to use the crussing shoot and where dose the wisker poll go theres a hook at one end and a spike on the other ,lol

The spike on the whisker pole is placed in the eyelet in the clew of the genoa or jib and the other end clips into a D shaped ring on the mast.

THANKS Dave,we had a brill 2 weeks my wife is not to keen as it was a bit windy and i had the rales in at one stage and she was not happy but i was having a great time.we had a bad storm last week and when we drove round the corner to check the on the boat the mast was gone what joy came over me,, after the shock of it all it was not that bad a pin had come out of one of the shrowds and the mast went over the side , we were lucky no damage just lost the gooskneck .
